Limericks

This week we had a go at writing limericks. They are funny poems with 5 lines and a pattern of rhyming where the first, second and fifth lines all rhyme, as do the third and fourth lines. Limericks are often a bit rude, but we kept ours clean.

There was a young lad from Kaitaia
Who put his Gran in the drier
He had no regrets
for he said she was wet
and there was no more room by the fire

(Thanks to Mr Stephenson for that one!)

There was a girl from Pukepoto
Who broke her sister's photo
Her sister was mad
and made her all sad
So she made her one out of potato.

There was a man on Brotown
He ended up being a clown
He had a small daughter
Who smoked in the corner
And her teeth were ever so brown

Here is a bit of an anti-limerick from C

There was a girl from Kaitaia
who didn't realsie her hair was on fire
She fell on a stake
And got a tummy-ache
But she was a liar!

A girl from Taipa
Noticed the girl from Kaitaia
Was a big fat liar
She noticed there was hair
Over there
On her head
So it couldn't have been on fire.

And finally one from Mr B:

There was a man from Te Kao
Who was trying to milk his cow
He found no milk there
So he tried milking a bear
But the bear just said "Not evenow"

Our class would love to hear your favourite limericks, especially if they are funny and only if they are clean!
Thanks for reading our blog and a big thanks for adding comments.

Haiku

On Monday we had a go at making our own Haiku poems. In case you did not know, they are a Japanese form of verse that have 5 syllables in the first line, seven in the second and 5 in the third. They are often based on the seasons.

Here are some of our attempts. What do you think? Feel free to comment.

We were very pleased to see that our blog has been read in 4 continents.

The march past was alright because we tied with some other group
I took part in all of the sports.
My house group is Trigg One.
I think the day was dump and fun at the same time.

Athletics day was cruise because we didn’t have to do any work.
The march was cool cause we won - Ngarimu hard!
My house group came 13th overall. I think we did pretty good, Ngarimu came 2nd overall.
I reckon the day was COOL!!!!!

Athletics Day was alright. I did two events. The march past was very noisy and lots of fun. I took part in shot-put and long-jump - it was fun.
My house group, Miller 7 came 19th out of 40. I think that the day went really well and it was lots of fun.

Athletics Day was cool because you didn’t have to run. The march past was the bomb because I am in Buck. I took part in shot-put and discus; I came first in both. My House Group is Buck 6 and we came 24th. The day was mean because I won all the house group points.

Athletics Day was cool even though I did not do anything.
The march past was cool I put paint on lots of people.
I took part in watching.
My H.G Buck did well. We came 3rd. I think the day was very cool and I would like to do it again.

Music

I like listening to Bob Marley. My favourite song is “Every Day And Every Night”. I like his music because it is easy to get into. I have got lots of pictures, CDs, towels and posters.

I like listening to Christina Aguilera.
It is a kind of a pop jazz music. My favourite song is ‘Still Dirty’
I like this music because it’s got catchy tunes and it’s really easy to get used to it and I have her new CD ‘Back to Basics’ and it’s a really cool CD.

I like listening to hip hop and rock.
I like 50 Cents and other hip hop singers. One of my favourite hip hop songs is, “You Know That You Are Acting Like A Fool”.
And one of my favourite rock songs is “I Stand Alone".

I like listening to R&B and hip hop
It is my type of music.
My favourite song is “Stanza On”
I like it because when you're down the soft touch of the music can cheer you up and when you're alright you’re in the mood to boogie all-night.
My favourite R&B is UB4o.

I like listening to hip hop music. It is soft touching music.
My favourite song is "Born of Greatness".
I like this music because it’s half Maori and half English.
And also it’s cool how the Maori blends in with the English. The artist for "Born of Greatness" is Aaria.
"My language is my strength, an ornamental grace Ka tu ana ahau, ka uhi ahau e oku tipuna My pride i will show that they know who I am I am a warrior a survivor "
I like listening to hip hop; it is a cool type of music.
My favourite song is ‘Kiss And Say Good-bye".
I like this music because when you’re at a party and you really can’t dance hip hop is really easy to dance to!
